La fanfare electro-pop-funk de chez Ninja Tune est de retour! Un disque ludique et addictif de chansons et de mélodies improbables et lumineuses, aux grooves un chouia plus électroniques que sur leurs disques précédents, le "Flying wonders" de 2002 ("entre Beck, Burnt Friedman, et les Tindersticks"), ou le "Flying Wonders/Wobbly Jack EP" ("version balkanique de Can sous coke"). Il ne faut absolument pas que Ninja tune lâchent leur fanfare from Manchester et qu'ils continuent à nous abreuver chaque été (le disque est sorti au mois d'Août 2004) de rafraichissements de ce type. Passez le mot! (pour cela le plus simple consiste à choper les mp3 ou l'album et surtout, c'est essentiel, de les écouter)

Homelife est un groupe dingue, complètement fou, voilà c'est dit. "Wobbly Jack", extrait du "Flying Wonders Wobbly Jack EP", les voit jouer une polka enfièvrée que le collectif de Manchester a enregistré live en une prise: on dirait une version balkanique de Can sous coke... Si Ninja pouvaient sortir pendant encore longtemps des lapins magiques comme Homelife de leur chapeau, nous serions les dernier à nous en plaindre!

Fingathing - Wasting Time

Les Fingathing sont deux beaux tarés du groove made in Manchester. Leur mix contrebasse/scratches/techno n'a nul semblable et leurs trois albums sont autant de disques indispensables aux amateurs de hip hop groovy ET barré. À tel point que leur récent opus "Fingathing And The Red Nebula Band" avait fini dans mon best-of 2004 (hip hop, part 2). Leurs singles, toujours accompagnés de succulents inédits et/ou remixes, sont aussi fortement conseillés, aux Djs comme aux collectionneurs de tous poils, les velus comme les imberbes. "Wastin Time", par exemple, se voit agrémenté de deux remixes signés, pour l'un de la fanfare electro-pop-funk de chez Ninja Tune, j'ai nommé Homelife, et pour l'autre de l'olibrius qui nous intéresse présentement, Treva Whateva. La fine fleur de Manchester, en somme. Le remix de Treva Whateva conserve l'arôme hip hop de l'original, mais le malaxe pendant 4 bonnes minutes en version "Alice au Pays des Merveilles", à l'aide de moultes tic-tac d'horloges et d'alarmes de réveils, dans un climat cartoonesque, oppressant de façon exponentielle jusqu'au réveil ("Wake Up!"). La fin du track, toute tranquille, laisse elle augurer après ce réveil au forceps d'une matinée plutôt embrumée...

L'album du même nom que ce MP3 est sorti relativement discrètement en début d'année mais on va y revenir très prochainement...
